CCC is proud to present: Schnittke Concerto for Choir
Rewind back to March 2020: CCC tackled Alfred Schnittke’s choral masterpiece of the 20th century: Concerto for Choir (or coined by the choir as "The Beast"!). We rehearsed all the way to the dress rehearsal, only to cancel on concert day due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Forward to 2025, the choir (at last!) is preparing for our “revival” concert to reprise this programme.
Composed during the years 1984 and 1985, Schnittke’s Concerto for Choir is an cappella work for voices with text based on a tenth-century Armenian devotional manuscript by the poet Gregory of Narek. The piece is a favourite challenge for advanced and professional choirs around the world.
The first half of the evening will also feature:
Akh Ty, st’ep shirokaya – arr. Pechnikov
Hymn of the Cherubim – Tchaikovsky
Song for Athene – John Tavener
Selected movements of Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Vigilia
This concert is made possible by our sponsor: The Ontario Arts Council.
